This golden hour aerial view shows downtown Austin from the east. The view stretches from the Seaholm District below to the area surrounding the Rainey Street Historic District in the upper right. Lady Bird Lake, the First Street and Congress Avenue bridges, the former Seaholm Turbine Generator Building with its tall white smokestacks, Austin's Central Public Library, the sail shaped Block 185 (a.k.a. Google Building), the jenga-shaped Independent, the Austonian, plus all of the buildings rising in the southeast corner of downtown are on display.ault

An aerial view of the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge in downtown Austin. Spanning 700 feet over Lady Bird Lake, a reservoir of the Colorado River, the bridge connects the north and south routes of the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail.

The layout of the bridge deck—dotted with benches, planters, and lampposts—provides plentiful options for trail users to take in the beautiful view of the city skyline. Completed in 2001, the bridge is named after James D. Pfluger, a local architect who designed the trails surrounding Lady Bird Lake.

Running parallel to the pedestrian bridge is the Colorado River Bridge, a.k.a. Austin Graffiti Railroad Bridge. The large sail shaped building seen rising behind it is Block 185, soon be Google's new Austin office.

Lastly, in the distance is the dome of the Texas State Capitol as seen through one of the Capitol View Corridors. The corridors protect the capitol's visibility from a series of points around Austin.

Austin is the 10th largest city in the United States, and the fourth largest city in the State of Texas.

An aerial view looking east at golden hour along Lady Bird Lake toward the Rainey Street Historic District in the southeast corner of downtown where the sky is filled with construction cranes. Rainey Street, a sleepy residential area whose houses were renovated into bars and restaurants earlier this century, is now is the booming site of hotel, residential, and commercial high-rises and skyscrapers, including the Waterline, Austin's first super-tall scheduled to be completed in 2026.

The building along the left side of this photo is Block 185, soon to become the new Austin office of Google. Also seen here are the First Street Bridge (near) and Congress Avenue Bridge (far) crossing Lady Bird Lake, a reservoir of the Colorado River.

The Congress Avenue Bridge is home to the world's largest urban bat colony. At dusk each night from around mid-March to early November, people come to see the bats from the bridge, from the sides of the river and from boats. Although it is a little hard to see from this distance, the deck of the Congress Avenue Bridge is crowded with people waiting for bats to emerge from under the bridge to blanket the sky as they forage for food.
