The late English Tudor Revival style residence was designed by Lawrence B. Clapp for Ernest Holtgrove in 1939. Located at 4251 Parva Avenue in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Originally built by Mr. Appel, owner of Pacific Construction Company to showcase the quality of his firm's craftsmanship and as a residence for his family. Currently (April 2012) the house is available for purchase, listed at $1,899,00. The house is a major fixer that has been occupied by the same family for the last seventy years. It has 3745 sq. feet of living space and is situated on a 1/2 acre in the prestigious Los Feliz Oaks at 5730 Spring Oak Drive.

The architect was busy in the neighborhood in the mid to late 30s; he also designed a Mediterranean Revival style house for N. Bronfeld in 1936 at 1936 N. Western Avenue and another Colonial Revival style house around the corner for I. Singer at 5721 Spring Oak Terrace in 1939.

Clapp designed the Colonial Revival style house for David Appel, owner of Pacific Construction Company to showcase the quality of his firm's craftsmanship and as a residence for his family. The house was designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument (No. 1080) in 2015. Located at 5730 Spring Oak Drive in the Los Feliz Oaks neighborhood of Los Angeles, California .

Architect Lawrence B. Clapp designed the late English Tudor Revival style house for Ernest Holtgrove in 1939. Holtgrove who was born in Germany on January 1, 1880, immigrated to the United States in 1902. He was a home builder as well as a building commissioner for the City of Los Angeles for twelve years. He was active in the Los Angeles Breakfast Club. Later he moved to Menlo Park, California where he passed away on June 12 1965.
