Architect Lawrence B. Clapp designed the Colonial Revival style house for David Appel, owner of Pacific Construction Company to showcase the quality of his firm's craftsmanship and as a residence for his family. The house was designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument (No. 1080) in 2015. Located at 5730 Spring Oak Drive in the Los Feliz Oaks neighborhood of Los Angeles, California .

The architect was busy in the neighborhood in the mid to late 30s; he also designed a Mediterranean Revival style house for N. Bronfeld in 1936 at 1936 N. Western Avenue and another Colonial Revival style house around the corner for I. Singer at 5721 Spring Oak Terrace in 1939.
