The peaty land of 'Dorregeest'was able to drain naturally until the middle of the 17th century. In 1647 the area was reclaimed and drained because of the high levees due to the large dikes. Windmill 'De Dorregeester' was one of the windmills used to drain the polder.

The predecessor of the current mill burned down in 1895 during heavy thunderstorms and it was rebuilt the following year.

At the end of 1947 the Dorregeester was decommissioned and an electric screw pump built in the immediate vicinity took over the drainage task. The windmill fell into disrepair.

In the seventies it was restored but only in 2013 it became the windmill again visible in this picture.

A kite aerial photography outing with Tom on the island of Texel. Our first stop at the southeastern part of the isle, with a view on the Wadden Sea and the recent dike reinforcement works, executed between 2016 and 2020. On this spot -at the height of the Prins Hendrikpolder- was opted for dike reinforcement in terms of outer dike, man-made dunes. A more nature friendly solution. In the background the village Oudeschild is visible. In the air (but not visible) Tom's Levitation light Delta.
