Now with a 0.6 mile marked trail, finding the Fire Wave in Nevada's Valley of Fire State Park is a cinch on an easy 15-minute walk.

A slightly different perspective of the Fire Wave, looking westward. I was fortunate to be the lone sunset photographer and during the frenetic 5 minutes after the sky started to go off, I was hobbling all around the steep sandstone to get as many different angles of this amazing little slice of geology. This viewpoint provided the best sunset colors.

Jackson Lake Viewpoint from near the summit of Signal Mountain. A journey that began with a wake up at 3:30 am gave me plenty of time to swat mosquitos and by 05:45, it was time to catch the alpenglow on the summits of the Grand Tetons.

An unplanned and different take on the Flickr-popular 'The Potholes' in La Jolla, California. Truly one of the joys of photography for me is coming away with an image that was completely unexpected from what was pre-visualized. With my tripod set up for landscapes, a surfer popped into the scene and immediately became my mid ground and main subjects.

Another spur of the moment trip to the beach with my buddy, Sid. Well, if 6 hrs round trip counts as spur of the moment that is. The Sunday afternoon clouds in N. California were building with time, so we met up at this beach and began to fire away. This was one of the first images I clicked off. The little splash on the left and the rock just being enveloped by the more prominent splash up front stood out to me in this one.

Waves gently roll onto this idyllic soft sandy beach as a paddle border meanders around a palm lined point. "Hawaiian Time" means, "get there when you get there." Typically it infers there is no problem showing up to an event an hour or two late, and subsequently there's absolutely no problem in staying an hour or two longer than originally anticipated. This sky became alive quite a while after the sun dipped just to the left of Molokai in the distance. It was a good 20 minutes afterward when the colors became alive. So in Hawaii, even the sunset colors can show up on "Hawaiian Time."
