The previously noted birding advice from my friend Tom: "You have to bird 'em all," is particularly the case with Zone-tailed Hawks, as they look similar and fly together with vultures. I had forgotten about them until one of our group mentioned having seen one recently, then sure enough, the first bird I saw the next morning was this one, and one I would otherwise not have given a second glance, dismissing it as just another vulture. Soaring above the Devils River, Val Verde County, Texas.

This is a capture of the Bayou Ranger II plying the waters of Horsepen Bayou. One way of seeing the bayou in a bit more protection but lacking the intimacy of paddling the bayou in a canoe or a kayak. Trust me, the people were all focused on the lovely Tri-colored Heron (in breeding colors) perched atop the old snag stuck in the mud of Horsepen Bayou.
I don’t think that my contacts are seeing my photos and will post this as an experiment. It’s a busy weekend anyway and will likely be away until Monday with a trip out of town scheduled for Saturday.
Am still getting no comments on the previous post except for the people that are searching for it. It does not show up in the normal feed. Hopefully, they will get the problem resolved while I’m away.
