A requested image from my archieves ~ Back story, I had just walked out to one of our garden areas for some flower images. My camera wasn't dialed in for action shots hence the slower shutter speed. Note the bent beak on the aggressor. Not bad for 15yr old technology and bad camera settings.

Transition zones can be exciting locations to photograph wildlife. in this place, near the mouth of a creek flowing from the hills and emptying into Juan de Fuca Strait, I have photographed river otters, belted kingfishers, and - one morning in April - a pair of Common Mergansers. My friend Pia lived alongside the creek the entire time I knew her - 35 years.

During that same period, I moved 21 times. Pia was unusually stable in a restless age: a rock of consistency compared to my other friends and myself. I will always associate this place with her. I made this shot from her deck. Not quite eye level, but close enough.

Photographed at Tugwell Creek, on southern Vancouver Island, BC (Canada). Don't use this image on websites, blogs, or other media without explicit permission ©2013 James R. Page - all rights reserved.

Save the Elephant Day! What better way to celebrate then with this cute little elephant calf who found a stick to play with? I cannot say enough about elephants and how smart, caring, they have amazing family bonds, and so much more. Truly remarkable animals. This planet would not be the same without them. Hope this makes you smile.

The sun had just disappeared over the ridge to share its last rays with Montana when I arrived at Sather Lake in western McKenzie County, North Dakota, roughly 22 miles from Sidney, Montana. The first frogs of spring were making their presence known and a couple of Canada geese were discussing their day after making final approaches overhead in the far-from-calm conditions. I had been eyeing the sky and clouds for some time while exploring some of the National Grassland in the nearby buttes and valleys but this lake won out. What began as a rather blah afternoon of scoping out potential compositions paid off handsomely in the end. (4-14-2024)
