After seeing the pack of five coyotes I figured that my multiple subject captures would be limited, but was EXXXtremely fortunate to come upon this group of deer (all doe) grazing at the water’s edge. They all kept an eye on me but continued on with their foraging and kept an eye on junior. I could never get the fawn in a real clear shot, but did manage to include him in a few. No need to comment on all of them but will leave the comments open on each capture. Quite a place this Armand/Horsepen bayou complex! There captures were taken on Horsepen Bayou.

Absolutely no way to approach across this great divide of water and not be detected. A young lady keeps a watchful eye of her fawn as well as the approaching canoe. Always ready to sound the alarm to flee if I get too close. The water was shallow in this part of the bayou and really no way to get closer and so a distant shot will have to suffice. Canoe boy never had a chance to get any closer as junior picked my advance through the reeds that border the lagoon near the mouth of Horsepen bayou and never looked away. Since mom had here backside toward me she never picked up on my movement and things didn’t register with her until she picked up on junior’s heightened alert status. They both headed for the tall reeds ending the brief encounter.

This White Tail buck was grazing in the pipeline right of way just across from Bay Area Park! Sitting low in the canoe made the tall grasses on the edge of the bayou quite an obstacle and getting a clear shot of him without getting a sign in the scene was quite a challenge. There is a considerable crop in this capture. Have not seen many deer this year and so this was a treat.
