'Settlement' is a collection of polished stainless steel figures and geometric shapes temporarily installed on a headland overlooking Morecambe Bay. They are physically substantial objects but their reflectivity and the gentle swaying of the figures in the breeze lends them an ephemeral quality even close up. They are present yet elusive at the same time.

Their other great quality is one they share with lots of art made for an informal, landscape setting. People people interact with the art and each other much more freely than in galleries and museums. The way the art comes alive and people connect through it can be beautiful.

A steel sculpture created to commemorate Manchester as the world's 1st nuclear free city in 1986. Pretty dull and unimaginative in my opinion, it's a flock of doves (natch) in white painted steel. I got in close to make something abstract of the different colours caused by the varying shadows and reflections on the pure white sculpture.

It wasn't conceived as part of the Irwell Sculpture Trail but its position close to the banks of the Irwell means it's included in the walk around these artworks. Sorry to say my least favourite of the sculptures I've visited so far

Part of the Tern Project of public art in Morecambe. Local artist and cobblestone designer Maggy Howarth was commissioned to produce designs for the promenade surface that provided a visual interest and thematic link with the other artworks along the seafront. I've made many attempts to catch the subtlety of these feathery inlays. I liked the way the windblown sand softened the design.
