An installation of 100 figures on Crosby beach, near Liverpool. A wonderful example of public art.

Over saturated but I think it gives a sense of the unreal feeling you get from wandering among these fine figures, at least that was my intention.

I think this really needs to be seen View Large And On Black

1/100th part of Another Place by Antony Gormley. Each figure is a cast of Gormley's own body. The docks of Bootle, Liverpool form the background of this shot.

There has been talk of moving the installation but I think it would be a great shame. It belongs here. The figures look like they've been here for ever, they just fit. I'm jealous though, I'd love to have something like this in Morecambe. If they do decide to move them we'll have 'em like a shot.

Originally commissioned for a site in Lancaster, this sculpture was rejected because it wasn't thought fitting for a heritage area.

It was eventually placed on the northern boundary of Morecambe and is dedicated to those who have lost their lives in the bay.

It is a fine sight as you drive into town from the north but I'm not convinced by the relevance of the dedication. Don't get me wrong, I like the sculpture and I think a memorial to the people who have died at sea is a good idea, I just can't quite make a connection between the two. To me this seems to be more of a celebration than a memorial. There is a carefree feeling of space and joyousness around this piece.

Anyway, I like it and it fits in it's location very well. A big thumbs up to local artist Shane Johnstone from me.
