I assume this high mountain lake, at 9518 feet (2900 m), has an island in it (it does) but it can't be seen from this location. My lungs noticed the altitude while exploring here.

As a kid this would have been a fun rock-hopping spot, with wet shoes and sprained ankles.

Hope your week is off to a wonderful start.

It would be flatter if glaciers hadn't scooped out this terrain long ago. This is just a small section of the amazing terrain the glaciers carved.

In addition to unique, stunning beauty while on the Pass one can count on high winds. Reaching almost 11,000 feet creates some ideal conditions for wicked gusts.

Loved it here, hope to return.

Thanks for taking a look! Always appreciated.

Three prominent peaks of this major mountain range. Here we have Squaw, Pilot and Index peaks.

"The Absaroka Range stretches about 150 mi (240 km) across the Montana-Wyoming border, and 75 miles at its widest, forming the eastern boundary of Yellowstone National Park along Paradise Valley (Montana), and the western side of the Bighorn Basin. The range borders the Beartooth Mountains to the north and the Wind River Range to the south. There are 46 other peaks over 12,000 ft (3,700 m). The range is drained by the Yellowstone River and various tributaries, including the Bighorn River." Wiki

Two of this special mountain ranges iconic mountains in the distance: Pilot and Index peaks. Pilot has been whittled down to a sharp point.

"The Absaroka Range has the distinction of being blanketed with the world's first National Forest. The Shoshone National Forest was established in 1891 due to its corridor proximity to Yellowstone Park. At 2.4 million acres, it is one of the largest on the continent.

There are 46 other peaks over 12,000 ft (3,700 m). The range is drained by the Yellowstone River and various tributaries, including the Bighorn River." Wikipedia

Glaciers carved out this huge chasm/cirque in the expansive high plateaus near the top of Beartooth Pass. Twin Lakes is one of the many striking views enjoyed as one travels the Beartooth Highway.

"The highway has been called "the most beautiful drive in America." Definitely one of the best I've experienced.

The ecosystem of the Beartooth Mountains is one of the most unique in the contiguous United States, partly due to being part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem." Wikipedia
