Once I've cut the extra piece off the second floor I do a very very very quick sand on the bottom of the cut to smooth and level off the section that was cut. Don't over sand this section.

To reduce the light transfer between floors I painted the bottom of each floor a Medium Gray colour. I actually gave these two coats. On the office building on the left of the final product the roof is actually the floor so I ended up painting the roof of those pieces gray. I'll explain why I did that in the final product photo.

You can see how these building can look once taller.
You can also notice that the building on the left is darker and looks more real than the building on the right. The plastic on the top of each floor is quite transparent and the fact that there are a lot of windows in each floor it lights up and you can see a yellow plastic look inside the building. To complete the look on the building on the left I'll explain what I did in the following photos.
I some of my buildings I've not blacked them out. I have actually place people in windows etc. In one of my office buildings on the top floor I actually created a board room with chairs etc. But that is one of my taller buildings and For these I just wanted a black glass office look.

This building comes apart in four sections. The base and three upper floors. As you can see the lower floor has a larger section that drops down to cover the inset base floor. In order to save money and use less kits you can cut and adapt this second floor section to fit with the others. I'll show in the following photos.
