14th July (afternoon - 1st concert) 2018 at St Andrew's Cathedral, Aberdeen.

North Atlantic Fiddle Convention (NAFCo) (free event), www.northatlanticfiddle.com/.

Country: Britain - Scotland. Style: Traditional Scottish Folk.

Lineup: Claire White (fiddle/v), Frances Wilkins (concertina) .

This duo (who have played together since 2006) perform Shetland songs and tunes (including some self penned Sheland inspired ones). Claire White and Frances Wilkins are both now based in Aberdeen. White was born and raised in Lerwick, and Wilkins, originally from England, lived in Shetland between 1994 and 2001. Wilkins is a lecturer in ethnomusicology at the Elphinstone Institute, and I visited an exhibition on display at the the Sir Duncan Rice Library during NAFCo which she curated: "Niimitaau (Let’s Dance!) Fiddle Music between Scots and Eeyou Cultures" (about the Cree musicians of James Bay in Québec. Back in 2011 I heard her give a talk on “The Bagpipe Music of the Fiddle: Exploring Scotland’s West Highlands Tradition” at a Ed Emery Fiddle Conference (unfortunately the last one).
