21st July 2017 at the British Museum (room 41), London WC1.
This room includes objects from the Saxon Hoo hoard, and the replica of the lyre whose fragments are part of this. They are visible in the display cabinet behind the musicians.

"Music in Medieval Britain: From Beowulf to Agincourt", lecture with songs and reading from "Beowulf".

Country: Britain. Style: Western Classical - Medieval Music.

Lineup: Matthew O'Keeffe (v/MD), Hazel Askew (v/harp), Michael Ronan (v), Jamie Wright (v), Matt Norriss (v/fiddle), Cameron Johnson (natural trumpet) with Emma Dillon (lecturer/v), Richard North (reading).

The songs were chosen for their connections to objects in rooms 40 (Sutton Hoo and Europe AD 300-1100) and 41 (Medieval Europe 1050-1500). They were introduced by Emma Dillon of King's College, London, who added a sixth voice on one of the songs. As well as being part of the Early Music scene, Hazel Askew plays Folk Music. For photos of her with the Askew Sisters and Lady Maisery, see: www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/tags/hazelaskew,folkmusic/.
