25th September 2015 at the Ivy House, London SE15.

The Goose is Out!, thegooseisout.com/.

Country: Britain. Style: Traditional English Folk / Brass Band.

Lineup: Martin Carthy (v/g/mandolin), John Kirkpatrick (v/accordion/concertina), Paul Archibald (trumpet), Shane Brennan (trumpet), Roger Williams ([tenor] trombone/bass trombone/euphonium), Martin Brinsford (percussion/mouth organ).

This band has existed on and off since 1983 (they currently have no gigs planned so another hiatus is in the offing). The size of the lineup makes it difficult to find bookings on the Folk circuit. Its originality lies in combining two English Folk stalwarts with a brass section (and percussion). This is the third time I had seen them live, the first was 1997 when they returned from a long break with a 5 piece lineup including Howard Evans and Richard Cheethan, and the second in 2007 (at the Watersons Royal Albert Hall concert) with a 4 piece with Roger Williams and no trumpet player. This time they were a 6 piece. I've taken plenty of photos of Carthy and Kirkpatrick in other contexts (to view click on the name of the musician in my tags).
In this photo: Carthy plays his custom Martin OOO-18 guitar.

In this photo: From where I was sitting Archibald and Brennan were hidden behind their music stands. The only time I could take a photo was when they came forward to turn over the pages (Archibald is on the left).
