9th May 2013 at Cadogan Hall, London SW1.

“Jazz Divas” (one in a series of concerts).

Country: Britain. Style: Jazz - Vocals / Swing.

Lineup: Clare Teal (v), Grant Windsor (p/MD), Simon Little (b), Ben Reynolds (d), Dave O’Higgins (tenor sax/clarinet), Gemma Moore (tenor sax/clarinet) Alex Garnett (alto sax/flute/clarinet), Adrian Revell (alto sax/flute/clarinet), Bob McKay (baritone sax/bass clarinet), Andy Greenwood (trumpet), Mike Lovatt (trumpet), Brian Rankine (trumpet), Martin Shaw (trumpet), Gordon Campbell (trombone), John Higginbotham (trombone), Ashley Horton (trombone), Andy Wood (trombone).

Clare Teal was born near Skipton, and on the day of this concert (as she told us several times) was aged 39 years and 360 days. Her music reflects the Jazz and Popular music of the Swing Era. She was touring with her show “The Divas and Me” which featured songs made famous by Ella Fitzgerald, Doris Day, Peggy Lee and others from the 1930s-50s, plus more contemporary divas Annie Lennox, Dory Previn and Snow Patrol (!). This time her regular Trio was supplemented by a Big Band, featuring several musicians from the BBC Big Band. In 2011 I took photos of Clare Teal with the Jay Phelps Big Band: www.flickr.com/photos/kmlivemusic/sets/72157627366506197/.
