Perception is the trick to photography. Photography is all about finding that perception of the world that either makes you or someone else stop and look, even if just for a moment. Be it an exotic landscape or a familiar one. A street scene or a portrait in a studio. It is all about perception. Cameras, lenses, film, exposure, composition, and all the other tricks that photographers carry around in their bags are just keys to help us unlock the doors to the myriad perceptions of the world we can seek out around us. Sometimes, as in this case, we can imagine the scene, but we actually need the camera to realize it. I like this kind of photography the best. I like photography that shows me things I cannot normally see with my own two eyes. I especially like the photography, that in the ordinary, finds the extraordinary.

This shot is the result of a double exposure taken at Narada Falls. A trick I have been using a lot lately, precisely because it shows me a perspective of the world I cannot easily, or at all, see on my own. Taken with the first shot in focus and underexposed a stop, then the second shot purposely out of focus and also underexposed a stop. Shot on my Nikon FM2 with Fuji Velvia 50.
