Am extremely late getting here this evening as it’s been an incredibly busy day. Most of the prep for Christmas Eve and Christmas is done but will need to run a few errands tomorrow morning and so I’ll be brief.

All of the deer, pelicans, egrets, herons, and all of the wildlife on the bayou including the alligators wanted me to wish everyone here on Flickr a Merry Christmas as well. Covid is alive and well and living in my body. I am on medications and doing well, so there is no need to be concerned. Whenever I start feeling a bit better, I’ll be back and commenting once again.

The photo here is not much to look at, but getting close enough to the deer in the distance was never going to happen. This is an area that we call the flats and is quite a stretch of open water. The only problem is that is quite shallow and impossible to paddle in and you have to use the paddle to push yourself like a pole in the muddy bottom. There was also a head wind here that was not in my favor and the deer spotted me long before I got close.

As I stated before, this is strictly about my status and I hope to be back soon. Not the way I wanted to begin my new year, but it could have been worse. Wishing everyone a wonderful week ahead. Warmest regards.

The Bayou Ranger returns from a tour of Horsepen Bayou which was part of an effort to stop a flood control project in Clear Lake City that threatened the wildlife and would have dramatically changed the natural beauty of the bayou. It was a major effort put forward by the residents in the area to halt the construction project. Many people contributed to the effort and they were successful at getting the project cancelled.

The bayous are still under a tremendous amount of pressure from the development in the area, but at least they have a fighting chance.

Anyone interested in touring the bayou can book a tour on one of the Pontoon Cruises and discover the bayou of the bayous. Cruises are available through the Armand Bayou Nature Center. There is also a rental service that will deliver kayaks to the bayou so that people can experience the bayou at their own pace.
