Not sure what was going on in the early morning on the edge of Armand Bayou but was able to experiment with some more high ISO captures. This one is at 2500 and came out fairly well. This Yellow-crowned Night Heron seemed very unconcerned by the other YCNH’s display and sat looking in the other direction and never paid any attention to the first one.

Not sure whether this feather display on this Yellow-crowned Night Heron is mating display or a threat display, but this is only the second time I have seen them do this. My friend Gary also caught the behavior and thought it might be a courting display. The breeding season has long since pasta and I have not explanation. This is another ISO 2500 capture in the dim light of the morning.

This Yellow-crowned Night Heron was merely shaking out all of the lose feathers as it perched in a tree on the bank of Horsepen Bayou. I thought I had captured a feather flying through the air just below his tail, but it’s just stuck to the tree branch.

Early morning breakfast on Armand Bayou of crab omelet. Forget the omelet thing as it’s just going to be fresh crab at this meal and paddlers are not invited. These Yellow-crowns are masters at catching crabs and making quick work of dealing with the nasty claws on them.
