This was right before Christmas. I thought the lake was high then. I went back here New Year's Day, and the water level had gotten even higher! So high that this truck was completely underwater!

I was out at the Haw River dam off 15-501 taking landscape shots when this heron decided to makes these rocks his fishing spot. I did not have my 150-600mm lens, so I had to "make do" with my 70-200mm. This meant switching my Sony a7iii to APS-C mode. Oh, and I still had to crop this photo A TON. I hate cropping, but there was no way around it.
I'm actually really surprised with how this turned out considering I'm in APS-C mode which cuts the megapixels of the a7iii in half, and I cropped this photo in post A TON.
I've always debated what to do in a situation like this -- turn my full frame into APS-C mode, or stay in full frame and keep all the megapixels and crop even more in post. I'm still learning which method works best for me.

The Haw is getting back to the levels that I like, but it still isn't at the point where I can really walk on the rocks to literally stand in the middle of the river. Until it gets there, I'll use my 70-200 lens to capture spots as my trusty 16-35 is not the best choice right now.
