It is always nice to see these highly endangered cranes in their natural habitat. I took this on the shores of the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, January 2009

Me siento muy afortunado de haber tenido y de continuar teniendo la oportunidad de fotografiar estas grullas blancas que están desesperadamente en peligro de extinción. Mi estado, en su costa central, acoge las grullas blancas cada otoño, donde se alimentan principalmente de lso cangrejos azules que habitan en el área pero también de los otros crustáceos que hay allí y hierbas de los pantanos que constan esta área. Esta foto muestra una grulla del único grupo salvaje que queda en el mundo. En primavera regresan a sus áreas de reproducción en el norte de Canadá.

Being able to photograph the last remaining whooping cranes of the last and only viable wild flock in the world is an incredible experience and it leaves me with a bittersweet taste in my mouth as climate change, irresponsible water consumption, loss of habitat and a small genetic pool are negatively affecting these regal birds.

Me deja con un sabor agridulce en boca porque sé que el cambio climático, el consumo irresponsable de agua, la pérdida de hábitat y un grupo genético pequeño les afectan negativamente a estas aves majestuosas.
