TORONTO, ON (May 30, 2013) – The Riverside Business Improvement Area (BIA) is pleased to announce that they will be beautifying the corner of Queen & Broadview with a 20’ x 12’ “Welcome to Riverside Mural” replacing weathered signage on top 2 stories of the west side of the New Broadview Hotel, home of Jilly’s Exotic Entertainment. The mural design is inspired by the Queen St E. Riverside Viaduct and Artist Eldon Garnet’s Public Art with the phrase “The river I step in is not the river I stand in.” The “Welcome to Riverside” mural was designed by popular Riverside Artist Jessie Durham, and is being painted by an up and coming local muralist – Melissa Luk. The mural will be painted on ten 4 ft x 6 ft panels and pieced together upon installation later this summer. The design will be unveiled at a public ceremony on June 1st at 2:45 as part of the Riverside Eats & Beats StreetFEST.

“Riverside BIA was thrilled to be awarded a grant from the City of Toronto Economic Mural Program” says Perry Lupyrypa, Riverside BIA Executive Director. “This mural is the first part of a beautification plan for the Westerly side of the BIA, in preparation for the 2015 Pan Am Games, when the eyes of the world will be on Riverside” Further projects will be announced in the next few months.
