Crepuscular rays (AKA sun rays, sunbeams, God rays, Fingers of God, etc.)
Taken on New Years Day, 01-01-16, in Pescadero, CA
at Pigeon Point Light Station State Historic Park (Pigeon Point Lighthouse)
5154 01-01-16

I was on my way to Ano Nuevo on New Years Day to go on a tour to see the Northern Elephant Seals and had already passed some wonderful photo ops on my way (frost along the sides of the roads and highway, the sun rise from the San Mateo Bridge, a flock of geese flying overhead, an artist painting the first sunrise of the new year right before the intersection of Hwy 92 and 35 and then steam rising off the water). I knew if I stopped, I would dawdle too long and I planned to make a brief stop at the lighthouse, so resisted the urge to stop and made it to Half Moon Bay in 50 minutes! No traffic! And then on my way to Pescadero, rays of sunlight streamed through gaps in the clouds and they were so beautiful that I knew I had to stop! I was close to the lighthouse, so stopped there and took these photos that don't do the sight justice whatsoever! They were there all day (although lighter and less noticeable), so I pointed them out to everyone I saw. One lady described them as "heavenly" and I couldn't agree more. I had the best New Years Day that I can remember. I got to see and photograph some of the Northern Elephant Seals and a couple of their babies too! (I'm still sorting through those photos!) I can't wait to go out and see them again! =)
