It's been a while since I've been here but the recent solar events have forced me out of hiding ;-)
The aurora borealis fills the night sky in the early hours of the morning over Mount Adams, Washington, during the solar storm of May 11, 2024. This solar storm, topping out the space weather scales at a G5, was one of the most powerful of the past century and resulted in auroras, or northern lights, being seen as far south as Puerto Rico. Colorful auroras twisted and danced overhead for much of the night, and the calm lake provided a beautiful opportunity for capturing reflections of the stars and aurora.

Der Hallimasch (Armillaria), auch Honigpilz genannt, gehört zu den bekanntesten Baumpilzen. Bei ihm handelt es sich um eine Pilzgattung aus der Familie der Physalacriaceae. Die Familie umfasst bis zu 30 sich sehr ähnlich sehende Arten. Die oberirdisch sichtbaren Pilzteile, auch Fruchtkörper genannt, findet man meist im Herbst am Stamm oder Stammfuß der betroffenen Pflanzen. Sie treten oftmals in kleinen Gruppen auf. Der Hut des Pilzes ist etwa vier bis zehn Zentimeter breit und besitzt die Form eines stumpfen Kegels, zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt kann er auch eingedellt sein. Die Oberseite des Huts ist mit dunklen, abwischbaren Schuppen versehen. Der Stiel von Hallimaschen kann 3 bis 20 Zentimeter lang werden sowie einen halben bis mehrere Zentimeter dick.
