I should add that the exposure was set by the camera- this is the price one pays for the 12fps feature on the A77 with aperture of 5.6 or greater. 7fps will do next time..

Well, that is what happens when you do not do what Earl tells you: should have had it at iso 800 f10 and then the entire bird would be in focus.
I kind of like the partial focus though...
