Hair turns grey as you age because the cells that produce melanin in your hair follicles decrease in number.

Greying often begins in your 30s, but it can vary by race and genetics. Greying usually starts at the temples and moves toward the top of the scalp. Body and facial hair usually turn grey later than scalp hair.

UV rays from the sun can speed up greying.
Smoking can damage the cells that produce melanin.
Poor diets low in iron, vitamin D, and B vitamins may also contribute to greying.
