The town of Akranes (pop. 8000) in W-Iceland, seen from the nearby Akrafjall mountain. Akranes is a fishing town, but today the economy is diversified: Many work in nearby metal smelters or commute to work in the Reykjavík metropolitan area, which is less than 50 km away by road, taking advantage of an undersea tunnel.
