Some of the mind-blowing architectural features of the Marin County Civic Center designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. This was Wright's last commission.

For a sense of scale, the dome at the upper right of the image is 80 feet in diameter, and the gold spire is 172 feet high.

I think Frank would have appreciated this kite's-eye perspective of his work.

More information about the building.

Aerial view of the new, recently completed Berkeley Art Museum / Pacific Film Archive at the University of California, Berkeley.

I especially love the interestingly shaped shiny, metallic skin and that huge video screen on the north side of the building.

Great stuff inside too....go check it out.

Most prominent in the photo are the Federal Building (right), The California State Building (left), and Oakland City Hall (domed, upper center). Lake Merritt can be seen along the top of the frame.

My office, for 6 years, was in the center of the cylinder of windows in the state building (left), on the 17th floor. Until seeing this view, I had always thought that the windows were tinted blue because they reflected the sky. In this photo, they're reflecting the darkened streets below.

Aerial view of a large oil and natural gas field in southwestern Kern County, California.

This field is part of the vast Midway-Sunset oil field, the largest in California and the third largest in the United States. First discovered in 1894, the Midway-Sunset oil field has so far produced over 3 billion barrels of oil and still holds more than 500 million barrels in reserve.

Steam has been used to extract the oil here for decades, and there are several cogeneration plants that burn the field's abundant natural gas to create stream which is used for both oil extraction and to generate electricity which is then sold to the power grid.

Wishing everyone a joyous and prosperous new year!

This shot was taken for the Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley, California and features 101 of their staff members in formation on the plaza in front of the museum.

I'm glad it all went well...it would have been extremely embarrassing to blow it in front of all those people!
