U.S. Route 66 known as the Mother Road or the Main Street of America was one of the original highways within the U.S. Highway System. Established in 1926, the highway originally ran from Chicago, Illinois, through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona before ending at Santa Monica, California, covering a total of 2,448 miles. The hit song "(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66" and the Route 66 television show in the 1960s are firmly established in the pop culture of the United States.

After the successful opening of the Egyptian Theater in 1922, Sid Grauman, along with partners Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks and Howard Schenck sought out real estate developer Charles E. Toberman, known as "Mr. Hollywood" for his role in developing Hollywood and many of its landmarks, for assistance in creating a Chinese-themed theater palace. Toberman selected the designers of the Egyptian Theater, Meyer & Holler to come up with the design. The two theaters, located across the street from each other, remain two of the most iconic historic theater buildings in the world.

The Chinese Theater has been home to many premieres, including the 1977 launch of George Lucas' Star Wars, as well as three Academy Awards ceremonies. It's forecourt, with hand and footprints of some of Hollywood's most recognized movie stars, is one of Los Angeles' most-visited tourist attractions.

The Chinese Theater is located at 6915-6927 Hollywood Boulevard. Declared a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1968 (No. 55). Please do not use this image in any media without my permission. © All rights reserved.
