Architect Harry B. Aarens designed the French Colonial Revival style house for James Francis "Jimmy" McHugh in 1937. McHugh (1894–1969) was a prolific composer, credited with over 500 songs. His songs were recorded by such artists as Chet Baker, June Christy, Bing Crosby, Deanna Durbin, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Adelaide Hall, Billie Holiday, Bill Kenny, Peggy Lee, Carmen Miranda, Nina Simone, and Dinah Washington. Among his most memorable tunes are "On the Sunny Side of the Street”, "I'm in the Mood for Love". "Don't Blame Me", "I Can't Give You Anything but Love", and "Exactly Like You".
