The 4.00am sign on time was pretty sobering but at least there was still 80psi & half a glass in the boiler. Hence the steam outlining Great Western Railway King 4-6-0 6023 King Edward II as it waits for me and Martin to bring her round for the 07.30 off shed time. We were crewing the first of 5 Photo Charters with KEII this week.

Just in case you prefer colour to b/w. Great Western Railway King 4-6-0 6023 King Edward II standing at Quorn & Woodhouse station with a Photo Charter. We signed on at 04.00 and after prepping the loco were off shed by 07.45 and ran to Quorn to pick up the participants. Not ideal conditions for a photo-shoot but good for those arty pics!

A quiet moment on the footplate of GWR 4-6-0 6023 King Edward II during our Photo Charter working. The thick mist that started the day off has begun to clear so at least the photographers could see the train now!

Great Western Railway King 4-6-0 6023 King Edward II stands at the head of its train in Platform 1 at Loughborough Central. I have dropped the lamp middle & bottom and unhooked but took the chance to grab this shot before running round for water at the north of the station. From 07.30 to 12.15 we used 2500 gallons of water to-ing & fro-ing on the photo charter, not to mention the mass of coal I shifted into that long, long firebox.
The Reporting Numbers are original GWR artefacts. If you view the original you can read the hand-written "Old Oak Common" & "Didcot" markings on the "1" & the "3".
