19th March 2023 at University College London (Main Quad), London WC1.

Central Asia Spring Festival (free event).

Country: various Central Asian countries . Style:. Central Asian Traditional (& Popular) Music & Dance.

Organised by students at University College London since 2009 (now by the UCL Kazakh Society) this festival marks Nowruz, a celebration of the beginning of a new year in the Persian calendar. The performers ranged from the former Soviet Union countries to Iran and Afghanistan. They were limited to very short sets which allowed for a large number of them. They mostly fell into three categiries - solo singers using a recorded backing track, instumentalists playing one of the many varieties of Central Asian lutes (sometimes also singing), and dancers.
