Madeleine Peyroux was born in Athens, Georgia, and grew up Brooklyn, Southern California. and Paris, She released her first album in 1996. Here as well as her own compositions she performed a diverse mixture of songs including "I'm never gonna get out of this world alive" (Hank Williams), "Anthem" and "Dance me to the end of love" (Leonard Cohen), "Everything I do gonna be funky" (Lee Dorsey) and "Trying to make heaven my home" (traditional gospel).
