This is a replica of a Mahayana Buddhist inscribed stone stela.
The original was erected in Sebarang Prai around 400 AD by Buddha Gupta (Mahanavika Buddhagupta, meaning Great Navigator Buddhagupta) as his declaration of gratitude for his safe journey from India.
On the stone is a still clear depiction. A tall Buddhist stupa stands on an anda (dome) supported on three pillars. The inscription is in the Brahmi language of South India/Sri Lanka.
The original was transferred to the Calcutta Museum during the British colonial period in 1834.

The west mural depicts traditional culture and arts including the making of traditional keris swords, boats, batik cloth and kites. The east mural’s focus is more on historical events.
