The entrance arch to the National Museum (Muzium Negara) is a replica of the Pintu Gerbang Malim (Malim Gate Arch) from the Fort at Kuala Kedah.
Kota Kuala Kedah is the only historical fort that has survived to the present day. It was built during the early 17th Century with the assistance of the Portuguese.

This Malayan Railways 'Class T' Steam Train #321.01 began service in 1929. It was built by WG Bagnall Limited of England in 1927.
It is now on display on the grounds of the Muzium Negara.

This poster style painting with the theme of "Merdeka) (Independence) was outside the National Museum in Kuala Lumpur.
The main figure is the first Prime Minister,Tunku Abdul Rahman. Also prominent are the National Monument. the national flower (the Hibiscus) and the Malaysian flag.
THe choice of flag design might have been infkuenced by the prominence of the United States at the time of independence, 1957. The design also has strong similarities to the flag of the British East India Company.

The National Museum of Malaysia is built on the former site of the Selangor Museum; the museum had been destroyed during World War 2.
The current museum was designed by Ho Kok Hoe and incorporates elements of traditional Malay architecture.
The front facade of the museum is dominated by two huge murals by artist Cheong Lai Tong. These two murals of Italian glass mosaic depict historical events from Malaysia's history on the east mural. The country's and multicultural traditions are depicted on both murals, but especially on the west mural.

To its right, the Japanese occupation during World War 2 is marked.
