I don't know who owned the Rollei, maybe something he had borrowed, but I wish I had it now! Stringers Bridge on the Waipara River in the days you could picnic or camp there. 24th February 1973. Ilford FP4, Asahi Pentax Spotmatic II. My dad passed away 5½ years after this (September 1978).

While scanning some 6x7 negatives recently I found this that will go into the New Brighton Photographic Club's history (second edition). Most likely from 1977 (possibly 1978).

It depicts Sylvia Lundy using her Rolleiflex (6 x 6, (or 2 1/4 square) black and white negative film) on a club portrait night at St. Faiths church hall in Hawke Street, New Brighton. Who was the "male model"? Note the Weston light meter hanging from her wrist.

Sylvia was the most succesful club member during the 1960s and 70s. She won just about every trophy going (slides and prints) during that period, including the Natural History print trophy (now called the Sylvia Lundy Tray) 11 times in 12 years.

Sylvia, was possibly the first New Brighton club member to join PSNZ (Photographic Society of NZ) as an individual member. She was awarded life membership in 1982, but returned to England after her husband Jack passed away in 1984, and passed away herself in 1989.

20th April 2005 and I am in the lower observation car park (Puhinui Road entrance) at Auckland International Airport, more than 1,000km from home. I am photographing planes (many of the pics are in my set "Planes - Auckland) www.flickr.com/photos/johnstewartnz/sets/72157625380140692/ Anyway a bloke wanders up, having walked from the terminal area and he has got a Canon DSLR so we get talking. We soon find out we live less than 5km from each other, me in Bexley and Will in Linwood. Here he is using my 400mm f/5.6L lens while I was using the 70-200 f/2.8L.

He is an aviation photo guru with many pics on airliners.net and jetphotos.net plus other sites.

We later found out that he was friends with my eldest son's first girlfriend! Small world 1,000km from home.
