Today's edition of "Armchair Traveling During the Coronavirus Lockdown" takes me back to a visit to the Calaveras Big Trees State Park in Arnold, California. There's only one way to properly convey the size of a Sequoia sempervirens (coastal redwood tree) and that is to include a human in the scene :)

Today's edition of "Armchair Traveling During the Coronavirus Lockdown" takes me back to a visit to Arnold, California. We wandered through a park along the Stanislaus River and saw this fisherman below testing his luck in the river. I love the color of the water and the swirl of the fishing line over the surface.

The Arnold Rim Trail (ART) is a unique trail system at mid-elevation in the central Sierra Nevada Mountains. Breathtaking vistas with panoramic views stretching from Mt. Diablo in the East Bay Area to snowy Mt. Lyell on the high eastern slopes of the Sierras near Yosemite, then dive down into canyons with streams coursing through the shade of older growth forests of cedar, pine, fir and oak. High rocky promontories, native acorn grinding rocks, a magnificent waterfall, many birds and wildlife of all kinds, and a lake lie along its current completed section in the part of the Stanislaus National Forest known as the Interface

Today's edition of "Armchair Traveling During the Coronavirus Lockdown" takes me back to 7 years ago today. We visited some friends in Arnold, California and took a pre-dawn hike on the Woodchuck Basin Trail out past Wheeler Ridge. It was a glorious morning !

We were up really early yesterday morning for a hike on the Woodchuck Basin Trail in the Mokelumne Wilderness above Lake Alpine in Alpine County. We finished the hike on the ridge of the mountain at about 8,900 feet elevation. You can see the trail along the side of the hill in the middle of this image. We were treated to carpets of beautiful wildflowers for most of the trip, which was about 5 miles round trip.

I didn't experience any problems at all with the foot that I broke back in April (I have a sturdy pair of REI hiking boots), though my knees were definitely complaining on the trip back down the mountain !
