There are more than 400 bridges in Venice - wooden, marble, stone, and metal. Some span narrow canals, several span the Grand Canal. Some are quite shallow and prohibit some boats from passing under during high tide. Some are quite nondescript and utilitarian. This one is one of the more photogenic ones with delicately designed wrought iron.

Somewhere in Dorsoduro; we walked from the "People Mover" near the cruise ship terminal to The Accademia Museum, stopping frequently for photo ops, so I don't know exactly where we were.

They are probably each named somewhere with a placard or sign on a nearby wall, but finding street names, canal names and bridge names with any consistency is notoriously difficult in Venice - just plan on getting lost regularly !

Early morning arrivals in port during our Mediterranean Cruise were frequently the most beautiful time of day. As we cruised into Selçuk, İzmir, Turkey on the Aegean Sea, I spent quite a bit of time out on the balcony photographing the changing sky. It's a rather noisy image since it was still rather dark outside, but I quite like the minimalist effect.

Today's edition of "Armchair Traveling During the Coronavirus Lockdown" takes me back to our excursion to the Island of Mykonos. The most notable feature is the windmills which can be seen from anywhere on the island. There are currently 16 windmills on Mykonos of which seven are positioned on the landmark hill in Chora. Most of them were built by the Venetians in the 16th century, but their construction continued into the early 20th century. They were primarily used to mill wheat.

You could use every word for blue in your vocabulary to describe the stunning views of sea and sky from the Grecian Islands. The small village of Oia is carved from the volcanic rock and clinging to the cliffs overlooking the Aegean Sea.

We rode in a bus up the narrow road comprised of sharp switchbacks; oncoming traffic had to pull over and wait for us to pass. As we climbed higher and higher, more of the stunning expanse of sapphire and blue sea was visible.

This wonderful old door Illustrates the general air of decay and abandonment in Venice - crumbling plaster, peeling paint, rusted metal, the patina of centuries. According to the wikipedia article, Venice has been in decline since the 1500's, so apparently it' s a very slow process....

Electrical wiring was added long after most of the buildings in Venice were constructed, so it is common to see the exterior wires and conduits added on externally as in this case.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venice

The permanent population has declined from nearly 200,000 40 years ago to <60,000 now, so many of the buildings are unoccupied or only partially occupied, some by people who keep only a vacation home here. The rest of this building is shown below.

Placement on the map is just a guess - we took such a wandering route from the cruise ship terminal to the the Accademia, that I would have had to drop bread crumbs to retrace my steps, but then the ubiquitous Venetian pigeons would have eaten them....
