Stopped off at the Palo Alto Duck Pond on my way home from work, eager to try out my new 70-300mm lens. The pond was teeming with ducks, geese, pigeons, seagulls and other birds that I can't name. This guy had commandeered the post and was not going to give it up, even though I sat nearby and photographed him for quite a while. (By the way, sitting on the benches at a duck pond is a dicey proposition - they're covered with you-know-what...)

The 150 foot radio telescope (called The Dish) is a famous sight on the mid-peninsula in the San Francisco Bay Area ; built in the 1960's and now maintained by SRI, it sits on land near Highway 280 and is visible for miles. The paved trails, popular with hikers and walkers are busy on a January weekend - perfect weather for hiking - mid 50's; The very hilly 3.5 mile loop is a good workout.

I worked on a restoration program today for the "Save the Bay" organization at the Baylands - planting native seedlings which will provide habitat for endemic endangered species. After yesterday's rain storms, the day dawned clear and sparkling - a great day on the Bay !

I walked on the Bay Trail in the Palo Alto Marshlands today. The tide was out, exposing the marsh mud, which makes for a great abstract. A large squadron of pelicans was also in residence, but I didn't have the long lens with me, and couldn't get close enough for any interesting images.

I visited the Stanford campus today to do a little location scouting for an upcoming shoot. It was a quiet winter day on campus, so I took the opportunity to visit some of my favorite spots. This is a portion of the beautiful mosaic on the facade of the Memorial Church.
