Goldfinch mocks gravity.

As shot from RAW, except for slight crop.

With the non-tofu-eating hawk around, I decided to play lifeguard for the little songbirds. The sparrows splash in the pool, but these goldfinches wanted to sip.

No need to comment. But watching wild birds also "fuels" me ;)

"What fuels you? What gives you strength? What makes things in your life work? It’s a literal, but also a philosophical question. This week for Flickr Friday! we want to see your photographic interpretation of ‘Power’. "

Goldfinch (male) in flight (GIF)

Spent hours watching and panning small and large birds and waterfowl. Not sunny, but still the sounds of chirps and warbles and the honking of a Canada Goose couple enchanted me and kept me clicking.

Many thanks for looking.

This morning I practiced in the early light (07:02), but still need more practice for flight shots when the male goldfinch feeds a fledgling.

Fortunately, I have a few more weeks, perhaps.

This female goldfinch and accompanying males have just reappeared, and brighten the back forty as much as forsythia shrubs. Where do they go in winter? Will they find next week's forecasted chilly temperatures too cold?

Just a joy to see this morning. I don't know what caused the bokeh balls back there.

850mm, f/10, 1/2000, ISO 1250, heavy duty tripod, gimbal mount, intermittent sun.
