Of all the birds and waterfowl that we feel so lucky to see here, the finches seem least disturbed by the lens.

Just practicing. Lots of outtakes. With sun and high shutter speeds possible, I should have moved the aperture to f/8 to capture more of the birds' wings and feet in focus.

No curves or saturation. Might desaturate these bright Goldfinches in the future.

No suggestions please. I'd like to learn at my own speed ;)
Thanks for looking and for previous kind and funny comments.

Female Goldfinch poses on a quaking aspen tree. State bird of Washington (state—added to distinguish it most clearly from D.C.).

Please consider investing in the private protection of critical habitats. One I help to support is nature.org (Nature Conservancy).

Many thanks for looking. No need to comment.

Goldfinch (male) in flight (GIF)

Spent hours watching and panning small and large birds and waterfowl. Not sunny, but still the sounds of chirps and warbles and the honking of a Canada Goose couple enchanted me and kept me clicking.

Many thanks for looking.

We set out a makeshift bird bath and drinking area for the fledgling and mature finches and sparrows. The heat and smoke make this well visited. The reddish hue comes from the smoke from British Columbia fires, almost obscuring the sun.

Hang in there, Canada!

How goes the heat and unprecedented dryness where you live?

Thanks for looking. Lucky catch.

"Adult males in spring and early summer are bright yellow with black forehead, black wings with white markings, and white patches both above and beneath the tail. Adult females are duller yellow beneath, olive above. Winter birds are drab, un-streaked brown, with blackish wings and two pale wingbars."
