Oasis in the dark II - A revisit and rework of an old image.
One of the great aspects to photography is the ability to revisit old images with new ideas and a fresh mind. The inspiration for this rework comes from
Frank Loose's excellent study of gas stations at night as part of his
Cover Of Darkness series..
Inspiring others, the concepts behind Frank's images have been often mimicked by others - so much so, that I fancied having my own go at a 'Frank Loosesque' style image, but with my own twist. Having undertaken a 365 Project 10 years ago, I have an enormous catalogue of images taken over the course of one year - it’s great from time to time to revisit old images to see if you can breathe new life into them or to potentially give you new ideas for the future.
I recently recalled that I shot this filling station at night during my 365 Project and thought it would be great to subject it to Frank's style. For me, the satisfaction in this is being able to use a raw image from 10 or so years ago and create something new from it.
It might not have the minimalist or isolation that Frank's excellent images have, but it’s my take on this style of imagery.
