Akihabara is nicknamed Electric Town (Akihabara Denki Gai). It is a shopping district for video games, anime, manga, and electronic and computer goods. Icons from popular anime and manga are displayed in the shops in the area, and numerous 'maid cafés' are found throughout the district. Akihabara is considered to be an 'otaku' subcultural center for people with obsessive interests, particularly in anime and manga (in modern Japanese slang, the term 'otaku' is mostly equivalent to 'geek' or 'nerd', or is used for a person unable to relate to reality).

Wild deer walk free on the island. This deer was a friend of the professsional photographer who has his business on the island’s boardwalk. The deer poses with the photographer’s subjects and earns a cookie. Everybody wins.

Itsukushima Shrine is a Shinto shrine, best known for its 'floating' torii gate. The shrine complex is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The 243 meter tall building has two towers, and each houses an observatory at a height of 202 meters. It had been the tallest building in Tokyo until it was overtaken by the Midtown Tower in 2007. The North Observatory remains open later at night, making it a popular spot to catch night views of the city.
