This elegant Victorian house in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury district was once owned by James Clair Flood (1826-1888). Flood and his partners ("Flood and O'Brien") once operated silver mines on the Comstock Lode and discovered the "Big Bonanza" in 1873. Flood also established the Bank of Nevada in San Francisco. He is considered to have been one of the 100 wealthiest Americans.

The offices of Clearheart Fine Design and Building, a company of carpenters and millwrights, located in the Lower Haight area of San Francisco. Founded by craftsman, carpenter and, artist Skeeter Jones in the early 1980's, the company has, since, "created over 70 Victorian facades from buildings previously stripped of their ornamental splendor by misguided modernization".

Skeeter Jones has, for more than 40 years, specialized in restoring the facades of old Victorian homes. He is a craftsman focused on restoring the fronts of famous structures and ensuring that Victorian homes remain the architectural and historical fixture of the city. From restoring original, lost details to reconstructing what disappeared in a stucco transformation, Jones may be the only person in San Francisco that does exactly what he does, approaching facade restoration like an artist approaches a canvas.

This Victorian, Queen Anne-style home, on the northeast corner of Page and Ashbury in the Haight section of San Francisco, was built by the grandfather of the late California US Senator, Alan MacGregor Cranston (1914-2000). Robert Dickie Cranston (1849-1916) came to San Francisco from Ontario, Canada in 1870 and, with his partner Hugh Keenan, established (in the early 1890's) one of San Francisco's first commercial home building companies.

This residence represented the last phase of Victorian styles in house building. It features the flourishes of Queen Annes: decorative shingles, the round corner towers with semi-circular bay windows complemented by turrets ("witch's cap"), tall chimneys, and spacious porches. Various exterior surfaces using many different materials help highlight the ornate cornices, brackets, and columns. Queen Annes were often painted in a rainbow of colors. The fashion at the time was fairly dark colors, along the lines of what we today would call "Earth tones" — sienna red, hunter green, burnt yellow, muddy brown, etc. This house remains a beautiful example of that era.
