A rare close up opportunity with these beautiful birds is always a pleasure.

A common bird on our Scottish walks but just as welcome in the dales.

This was my first sighting of one of these beauties this year and my first post of one, for almost 5 years.

They were once regular visitors to my garden, but as with the national decline our local numbers have dropped too.

This beauty was probably out a little early, but appeared to be in good health
