I'd seen a few photos of paving like this in Lisbon before I went, in a way I'd pre-visualised taking shots like these months before I'd even arrived......

I did take sme shots without people but much prefer the ones with people (well, legs at least) as they give scale, I also think they're more interesting when the human element breaks up the geometrical patterns.

I've been to Copenhagen many times over the years and every visit I like to pass through the Nyboder area in an attempt to get the 'perfect' shot of one of the cities most scenic parts.

With all the elements in the right place (blue sky, walls with just enough texture and a couple of bikes) this is probably the closest I've come to my goal yet.......

From Wikipeda : "Nyboder (English: New [small] Houses) is a historic row house district of former Naval barracks in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was planned and first built by Christian IV to accommodate a need for housing for the personnel of the rapidly growing Royal Danish Navy and their families during that time. While the area is still commonly associated with the name of its founder as one of his numerous building projects around Copenhagen, the Nyboder seen today was in fact, except for a single row of houses in St. Paulsgade, built from 1757.

Nyboder is today very much associated with their yellow colour and "Nyboder yellow" is in Danish often used as a generic term to refer to their exact hue of yellow. However, the original colour of the development was red and white."

As much as I like shooting amazing scenes such as the Pena National Palace in Sintra, shown below, what I really enjoy shooting are the 'quieter' shots such as this one as they say just as much, if not more, about a place.

As I prepare for this years #Photo24London event it seemed apt that I interupt my Norfolk shots and upload this alternative versions of one of my favourite shots from last years event. Given the less than brilliant weather forecast I suspect this tunnel under Kings Cross might be somewhere I return too this year........

A wideangle shot of Lisbon Cathedral. I've made no attempt to correct the verticals here, sometimes I think this kind of shot gives a better indication of the scale. I thought the red of the Coca-Cola tram made for a nice touch........

From Wikipedia : "The Patriarchal Cathedral of St. Mary Major (Portuguese: Santa Maria Maior de Lisboa or Sé de Lisboa) or simply Lisbon Cathedral is a Roman Catholic Cathedral located in Lisbon, Portugal. The oldest church in the city is the see of the Archdiocese of Lisbon. Since the beginning of the construction of the cathedral, in the year 1147, the building has been modified several times and survived many earthquakes. It is nowadays a mix of different architectural styles. It is classified as a National Monument since 1910."
