I was visiting Atlin in northern British Columbia on Labour Day this year (2022). It would not be an exaggeration to say that Atlin is my favourite place. I've been visiting this community since I was thirteen. Over the years, I have been privileged to see some gorgeous natural spectacles in the Atlin area. I remember camping on the same point where this photo was taken about fifteen years ago with my wife and children. On that trip, we witnessed the most spectacular sunset that I have ever seen anywhere. So, when the sun began to turn the sky red on this labour day weekend, I drove over to the same point that I had camped at so many years before. There I discovered this fireweed with a few flowers still in bloom. I didn't have a tripod with me, but I was still able to snap a few images of the red sky with the fireweed in the foreground. It was only a fraction of the display I remember during that long ago camping trip, but it was enough to bring back some good memories, and it was also beautiful in its own right.

Photo taken with the Olympus OM-D E-m1 and M.Zuiko 7-14mm f/2.8 Pro hand held. Raw conversion and initial post processing performed with DxO PhotoLab 5.4.x. Additional edits were performed in Adobe Lightroom Classic 11.

Pne Beach, near Atlin, has been submerged by high water levels this year, but the area has a wild beauty to it that one has to appreciate with or without the beach.

There are a number of medium sized cats around the world who are considered members of the lynx family. In Canada there are two cats that may be considered lynx – the bobcat in the south and the Canada Lynx (Lynx Canadensis) throughout most of Canada, Alaska and some of the northern United States. Lynx range in forest and on tundra and can be identified by their large snowshoe-like feet, disproportionately long legs, short tail and ear tufts. Lynx live primarily on hare though they will also eat birds and hunt medium sized mammals when they have to.

This particular lynx is one of a number that reside at the Yukon Wildlife Preserve. I photographed this animal with a Canon 7D and EF 400mm telephoto lens mounted on a Manfrotto monopod. It was a moderate winter day of about -15 degrees celcius. Jpeg processed from RAW with ACDSee Pro 6. Minimal processing included a slight exposure adjustment and sharpening. The photo is uncropped.

Buildings in Carcross seem to be peeking over the mounds of snow that line every road in town.

The Aurora Borealis put on quite a show last night. I rushed out to catch some of it and I could have been better prepared. Standing around with my camera at -25C in a pair of Jeans isn't the smartest way to go. To say I was cold is a bit of an understatement. Still, I did get a few nice shots before I absolutely had to come home. It was one of the most spectacular shows I've seen in many many years. The greens and reds were dancing all over the sky. In this photo, I captured near the end of my time out there, the lights were really truly kicking off. They were dancing all over the sky in front of me above me and behind me. A few other cars had also arrived with people to look and wonder at the majesty of it all.

Photo taken with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 and M.Zuiko 25mm f/1.2 Pro mounted on a tripod. All post processing was completed in DxO PhotoLab.
