Houses on the promenade at Lyme Regis in Dorset date from the early 1700s. The area is famous for its fossils, and one is built into the wall of the house on the left.

This thatched round house is at the side of the road on the hill leading westwards out of Lyme Regis. Dating from the early-mid 1800s, this was once a gardener's cottage. it is named the Umbrella House because of the shape of the roof. It is Grade II-listed. A more recent mirror extension has been built at the rear of the house.

There has been a Cobb at Lyme Regis for hundreds of years, and this formed an important harbour which at one point was bigger than Liverpool's. Initially it was built of timbers and large stones. Eventually in the 19th century it was faced with Portland stone. The Cobb was featured in the film The French Lieutenant's Woman. The author of the book, John Fowles, was at one point the curator of Lyme Regis museum.

The famous Cobb at Lyme Regis in West Dorset has existed for hundreds of years, and at one point enabled Lyme to become a major port in medieval times. It has been repaired many times over the years and was rebuilt in Portland stone by the Royal Engineers in the early 19th century. In the background is the Golden Cap and part of the Jurassic Coast.
