As soon as I set out on a day's drive yesterday, 26 May 2023, I was so tempted to turn around and go straight back home. Just south of Calgary, I realized how smoky it was, when there was no sign of our beautiful mountains. However, I wasn't going to photograph those distant peaks, so I kept going - for about eight hours.

Most of my time was spent in the SW, driving my 'usual' roads. The gravel roads were all so dry and dusty and my car quickly turned from a gleaming vehicle - thanks to the free car wash I had after getting my winter tires removed the other day - into a filthy one. That's the joy of driving away from most of the traffic encountered on the highways.

I returned home via the main N-S highway instead of my usual route further east. Eight hours of driving seemed to suddenly hit me and I was more than ready to get home. Just needed to fill the car with gas and wash the car windows, ready for the May Species Count tomorrow, starting at 6:30 am. Forecast was for good weather tomorrow, but it has changed to a possible thunderstorm in the afternoon.
