In case you were curious, this is the ship we traveled aboard on our Southeast Alaska cruise. She is a wonderfully restored 75 foot wooden vessel built in 1932 and originally used as a research vessel. You can read more about her at www.pacificcatalyst.com. I highly recommend this experience.

It was the very end of the Salmon run season when we were there. Our Naturalist guide told us that the bears start to get selective about which salmon they like to eat at this point - just 'topping off' so to speak. They love the female salmon and their eggs - seen spewing out in this shot. If they catch a male salmon, often they just eat the brain and let the rest go.
